1/2 cup shortening
2 cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs
3 tablespoons cocoa
1 pinch salt
3 cups flour
2 teaspoons soda
2 cups buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Cream together shortening and sugar. Add eggs and cocoa. Cream well. Add salt.
Sift four and soda together. Add alternately with buttermilk. Mix well. Add vanilla.
Pour into 2 9-inch layer pans.
Bake 350 degrees. 30 minutes. Test.
